During this consultation, Dr. Wells will meet with you individually to get to know you more personally and explain the benefits and limitations of chin liposuction. Dr. Wells will use this information to determine your candidacy for chin liposuction and create your surgical plan. Preparation

Once you decide to proceed with your chin liposuction procedure, Dr. Wells will give you a set of detailed pre-operative instructions. You must follow each instruction, as preparation is an essential part of any procedure.

You may need to discontinue taking blood-thinning medications and supplements, and you will need to cease nicotine and alcohol consumption several weeks in advance, as both of these substances can affect your recovery. You should also prepare to take time away from your responsibilities to focus on recovering, and arrange transportation home after your procedure. By following these instructions, you can facilitate a successful procedure and smooth recovery.

Procedure

Your procedure will begin with the cleansing and sterilization of your skin before anesthesia administration. Dr. Wells will place a small incision near your chin in a discreet and minimally visible area, typically within your skin tension lines. ⁽²⁾ She will administer a tumescent solution of saline, adrenaline, and an anesthetic into your fatty tissues. This solution minimizes bleeding by constricting the blood cells, swells fat cells, and helps to reduce post-operative discomfort.

After allowing the anesthetic to take effect, Dr. Wells will insert a thin cannula into the treatment area. She will move the cannula back and forth to help dislodge and break up the fat before removing it using gentle vacuum suction. ⁽³⁾

Dr. Wells will repeat these motions until she achieves your desired results. She will then close your incisions and apply a compression garment to protect your chin. Finally, you will rest in our recovery space until you are ready to return home.

Recovery

After chin liposuction, it is common to experience swelling and bruising. These effects are temporary and will subside on their own, but resting will be important in helping them fade. Any pain will be fairly minimal thanks to the tumescent solution, and Dr. Wells can prescribe medication to help manage discomfort. You will need to continue wearing your compression garments until Dr. Wells instructs otherwise, as this garment will help minimize further swelling and maintain your new contours as your tissues heal.

You will be able to return to most of your daily activities after resting for approximately one to two weeks; however, you will need to continue avoiding high-impact or strenuous activities until Dr. Wells clears you to return.

Results

You may notice improvements in your appearance immediately after your procedure, but the full results of your procedure will become more apparent as you continue to heal. You will be able to enjoy a sharper and more defined chin and jawline, as well as a more slender facial appearance overall. The results of chin liposuction are generally permanent, as your fat cells cannot return after removal. The surrounding fat cells, however, can continue to swell, making it essential that you maintain a stable weight to ensure the longevity of your results.
