In Her Own Words: Sue
I was diagnosed with breast cancer on October 21, 2011. I was 37, married to an amazing man, with three children ages 6, 4, and 1. By Tuesday, October 25, we were meeting with a surgeon. He had only one plastic surgeon recommendation for us – Dr. Wells. Walking into her office for the first time, I was struck by how everything was perfectly in place. It was beautiful, comforting, and welcoming. Her office and staff put me at ease from the moment we walked in the door.
We were almost immediately escorted into a room which was again, perfectly designed and clean. Obviously it is a doctor's office, but I was amazed at the attention to detail.
When Dr. Wells walked in the room, she was so open and kind, I felt at peace. Cancer is so frightening on so many levels, but her incredible knowledge – on a broad level as well as a very specific one, comforted my mind and heart.
Dr. Wells is not just articulate, bright, and knowledgeable. She also breaks down details in a way that is understandable, and not at all overwhelming. I could describe to my family, who desperately wanted details about my upcoming procedures, what was going to happen so specifically that it took their fear away too.
I have had 4 major surgical procedures with Dr. Wells: my initial mastectomy, a rescission of unhealed tissue, reconstruction, and nipple reconstruction. At every step of the way, in every procedure, she has been positive, uplifting, and full of care and concern, while at the same time maintaining a level of utmost professionalism.
We've come to expect so much of doctors. When I think of what they've done for me...taken cancer out of my body to give me the best chance of long term survival with my family, and replacing damaged cells with a product that has made me feel like a "normal" woman again, there really is no way to say thank you.
I recommend Dr. Wells to everyone; from those who are having a simple procedure, to those going through a mastectomy that will change their life in indescribable ways. She is my plastic surgeon, but I'm also proud to call her my friend.
Her rare combination of impeccable training, keen aesthetic sensibilities, technical skill and precision in plastic surgery sets this Baltimore surgeon apart from the rest.
